Ellen joined the Global Education team at MIT in September 2018 and oversees study abroad operations (particularly for exchange programs), safety/risk management, outreach, systems, and data. Ellen hails from Rochester, New York and began her international education journey as an undergraduate at Boston University when she studied abroad in Ecuador as a biology student. She continued bringing together her interests in study abroad and biology in early jobs in Queensland, Australia, and Quito, Ecuador and as a Masters student in Biological Sciences at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, doing field research in Panama and Costa Rica. She then joined the team at The School for Field Studies (SFS) Headquarters in Massachusetts where she worked in admissions and advising for environmentally-focused study abroad programs. Before coming to MIT she worked at the Learning Abroad Center at the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities and focused on the academics, operations, and logistics of study abroad programs in Denmark, Ecuador, Kenya, Mexico, Norway, and Sweden.
